The world is grossly unfair to the vast majority of people. This is not just a perception but it is a reality experienced by anyone who is struggling to house, feed, and educate a family. This is known to those who are aware that there is an elite who have billions of dollars and seem intent on taking more.
In this year of 2011 it started in Spain and then occurred on Wall Street, New York itself, and has been followed in most major cities of the world. The protestors are rallying under the banner of being the 99%.
The 99%ers see the gap between themselves and the super rich widening despite democracy and human rights laws. Capitalism working with government force has become the enemy of Free Enterprise. It seems like an inexorable drift of the super rich few away from the rest. The expanding gulf is obvious and real except for one link. The mechanism to take more from the 99%ers is more active, efficient and enforced than ever before in the history of mankind!
It is more insulting to the 99%ers when the super rich benefit from events like the Global Financial Crisis which saw billionaires make more billions (often as government handouts) while all of the 99%ers experienced a sharp fall in their living standards and many actually lost their homes and jobs.
Then the governments had to apply austerity measures to pay the money the super rich had acquired. A pump of money from the poor to the rich became apparent and screamingly obvious because it's action was accelerated to such a dizzying speed it could no longer be overlooked or hidden. The 2008 GFC did that for us. It revealed to us the underlying principal and mechanism of the modern economy.
This novel starts as a simple tale about a farmer who sees his tired soil and recognizes that he is stressing nature by the farming methods he was taught and funded to use.
As he and his family explore the reasons for this physical and moral exhaustion and dig deeper and deeper into the history, background and effect of the limited reductive 'official' science that modern people use to understand and manage today's world; they come across the hidden mechanisms at work which make life so increasingly difficult for the billions of the 99%ers while giving more and more power to the super rich until the system must snap - as it appears to be beginning to do in this year of 2011.
The farmer and his family also discover some simple alternative actions they can take which, if universally understood and adopted, would change the lives of all.
Such a change universally adopted would begin to alter the engine of the economy from the oil well and it's financial services managers back to the farm gate where a true nourishing and universal prosperity can be created by working naturally with sun, water and soil.
